What will tomorrow’s organisation look like?
It’s been said that: “All great change is preceded by chaos.” And “chaos” is an apt descriptor of the last few months . We are living in an unprecedented era of uncertainty; a business environment where one breakthrough idea can completely change an entire industry. Netflix knocked home-entertainment giants to their knees in under a decade. Thanks to Airbnb and Lyft, travel and transit will never be the same. And Amazon is just getting going!
It’s not entirely clear what tomorrow’s organisation – by way of design – will look like. What is apparent is that the organisation that served so well in the last century is totally out of step with the challenges of this century. Other than the fact that, of necessity, tomorrow’s organisation will be flat, focused, flexible and fertile (to new ideas), as a society we are still exploring how to: (1) build a suitable platform for new technology; and (2) accommodate the reality that tomorrow’s organisation will be a team of teams.
It’s not simply a matter of taking what worked yesterday and driving digital capability into the existing organisation. That’s like attaching a rocket to a bicycle. It might seem like a good idea at the time but a crash is assured. To survive, let alone thrive, will demand, at a minimum, a new way to think about organisation culture, organisation design and what it means to be a team. Competitive issues that are mutually dependent.
The webinar outlines the evolution of organisation design and the models that are currently being explored.
In particular, will explore the 7 major themes in organisation design;
- Classic hierarchy
- Flattening the pyramid
- The process organisation
- Parallel structure
- The shamrock organisation
- The virtual organisation
